It turns out that you <em>do <\/em>get what you pay for \u2013 the drivers that came on the 80mm Mini CD were very old and didn\u2019t work with Windows 7.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone in a similar situation, here\u2019s what I did to get everything working as it should (thanks are owed to <a title=\"Microsoft Answers: XBOX 360 wireless receiver won&#39;t connect to controller with Windows 7 64bit\" href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_7-gaming\/xbox-360-wireless-receiver-wont-connect-to\/0e141e88-64f4-4bbd-8dad-7eb12a22cab6\">jamesw1<\/a> for finding this solution):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download and install the latest <a title=\"Microsoft Hardware: Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows Downloads\" href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/hardware\/en-us\/d\/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows\">Xbox 360 Accessories Software<\/a> (version 1.2 at the time of writing).<\/li>\n<li>Plug in the device and open Device Manager (searching in the Start Menu is probably the quickest way to get there). Find your device in the list (it might be listed as an Unknown Device, though mine was labelled correctly), right click it and select \u2018Update Driver\u2019. Select \u2018Browse my computer for driver software\u2019, then \u2018Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer\u2019. Pick \u2018Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class\u2019, click \u2018Next\u2019, then select \u2018Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows\u2019 and click \u2018Next\u2019 again. You will be given an \u2018Update Driver Warning\u2019 \u2013 click \u2018Yes\u2019 (and don\u2019t blame me if your computer and\/or controller blow up). That\u2019s all.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finally, apparently these drivers are recommended for some applications: <a title=\"XInput Force Feedback Driver (XInput \u7528\u30d5\u30a9\u30fc\u30b9 \u30d5\u30a3\u30fc\u30c9\u30d0\u30c3\u30af \u30c9\u30e9\u30a4\u30d0)\" href=\"http:\/\/lavendy.net\/special\/driver\/xi\/index.html\">XInput Force Feedback Driver (XInput \u7528\u30d5\u30a9\u30fc\u30b9 \u30d5\u30a3\u30fc\u30c9\u30d0\u30c3\u30af \u30c9\u30e9\u30a4\u30d0)<\/a>.
